If You Were Born in 1962 . . .

If you were born in 1962, chances are both of your parents had careers at some time during your upbringing. If this was the case, or maybe even if this wasn't the case, chances are you had a babysitter or perhaps a nanny. My nanny's name was Sylvania - she was black . . . and white. Eventually she became a full-blown woman of color.

From 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm Monday through Friday (with a short break for dinner, but never homework - God forbid!) she told me stories. Fascinating stories. Stories about a group of people who were stranded on an island, and just couldn't seem to get off, despite many attempts and opportunities. She also told me stories about a boy and his father, and their nanny - her name was not Sylvania. The best stories were about the women who were magic. One lived in a really nice house in the suburbs, and the other lived in a bottle.

Sylvania is no longer around. Over time, she was replaced by Zenith, who was replaced by Sony, who ultimately was replaced by Vizio. They're all pretty colorful, but no one tells a story like Sylvania.
